Ceramics for Beginners will allow you to learn how to work with clay. You’ll learn about various clay types and their uses, you’ll learn how to hand build with clay and finally you’ll decorate your pots with glazes, engobes and oxides.
Course will start on 12th of September. Classes will take place each Tuesday 18:00-21:00.
We'll meet on 12.09, 19.09, 03.10, 10.10, 17.10, 24.10, 31.10, 7.11 - last meeting is about picking up your finished pots and seeing results. After first 3 meetings we’ll have one week brake to fire all the pieces already made and prepare them for first glazing.
Course price is 2 000 PLN, 250 each meeting, price includes all materials and firings. Every piece of ceramics you’ll make during this course belongs to you.
Classes will take place at Grzybowska 47a.
Techniques you’ll learn:
Pinch pot technique – This technique dates back to 10.000 BC. It's a simple method allowing for creation of both decorative and utility objects. While learning this technique you’ll create CERAMICS BOWLS, Boxes and tea mugs of different sizes. You will also learn how to decorate your ceramic piece by pressing and stamping.
Coil technique – this technique has been used for thousands of years to create large ceramic vessels. It's been known all across the world - from China, through Greece, Mexico to Africa. Currently it remains one of the most favoured methods among ceramists. During this class you will learn how to create a bigger piece – a vase or lamp. We’ll focus on this technique during two meetings.
Slab technique NO. 1 – making plates. Forming from slabs is also known since ancient times. It's been used - and is still used - to create tiles and dishes such as cups, plates, pots or teakettles. While learning this technique you'll create few types of plates. You'll also learn how to work with texturing.
Slab technique NO. 2 –We’ll work with slab technique twice. This time you’ll learn how to make cups and mugs. You’ll also learn how to create many types of the mug handle – geometrical, pottery handle, coil handle and slab handle.
Glazing – We’ll meet twice to decorate our pieces with glazes, engobes and oxides. You’ll learn 5 different techniques used by potters for glazing, you’ll also learn how to pick the right food safe glaze and of course you’ll experiment.
